Is Your Cup Big?

If your cup is small, a little bit of salt will make the water salty.

If your heart is small, then a little bit of pain can make you suffer.

Your heart must be large.

Hi,

Very meaningful however is very hard to be big heart when everyone only knows how to use such quote on others and not on ownself, and "
imagine" if you is constantly being drilled or always have ppl keep finger point at you or hurting you, such quote will only make one keep blaming own. Quote of such is of useless to someone whose body are full of pain when in the past is a believe of such quote and use those quote till can no longer take it.

Just a view point of my. No offence to you or ven thich nhat hanh.

I agree that if we just use such code on someone who is in constant pain or agony, it is useless. Instead, we should provide comfort, understanding and a listening ear in such cases.

In my opinion, making our heart large in this quote should mean learning to understand others' suffering and to accept our own unpleasant experiences in life. However, acceptance does not mean being submissive to suffering. We also need to love ourselves and understand the causes of our suffering so as to get out of it.

We can try to acknowledge and accept our past sufferings, and then move on instead of dwelling on them. In this case, peace in our heart is not impossible, and we can restore our peace gradually.

With metta. :)
